🐻 This is your starting line, not your grade. Net worth is the single number that all ten modules move: spend less than you earn, demolish debt, invest the gap, protect the downside. Track it monthly — direction beats position.

How this is calculated
Net worth = total assets − total liabilities. Assets: cash, investments, retirement accounts, home value, vehicles at realistic resale, anything meaningfully sellable. Liabilities: every balance you owe.
Be honest in both directions — the car is worth its trade-in value, not its purchase price, and the mortgage counts even though the house does too. A negative result is common early on (student loans) and simply means the arrow matters more than the position.
The age comparison uses the Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Finances (2022) median household net worth — medians, not averages, because a handful of billionaires drag averages far above what typical households hold.
Common questions
Should I include my home and car?
Yes — at realistic sale values, with their loans on the liability side. Some purists track 'liquid net worth' excluding the home as a stricter second number; both are useful, just be consistent month to month.
My net worth is negative — how bad is that?
It's a starting line, not a verdict — common for anyone early in a career with student debt. Direction beats position: a negative number rising $500/month is a better trajectory than a positive one falling.
How often should I track it?
Monthly, same day each month. It smooths the noise of individual accounts into one trend line — and that single number silently scores every financial decision you make.
