Savings Goal Calculator
A goal without a date and a monthly number attached is really just a wish. Pick your target — emergency fund, down payment, your first $10,000 — and walk away with both.
High-yield savings accounts publish their APY.

🐻 Make it automatic: a standing transfer of $300 on payday removes willpower from the equation — the system saves so you don't have to remember to.

How this is calculated
With a monthly amount known, the calculator compounds your current savings at your APY and adds each contribution until the goal is reached — giving you the month count and calendar date.
With a deadline known, it solves the annuity formula backwards: monthly = (goal − current × (1+r)ⁿ) × r ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where r is your monthly rate and n the months available.
Interest helps, but at typical savings-account rates the contributions do most of the work — which is good news, because contributions are the part you control completely.
Common questions
Where should goal savings live?
A high-yield savings account, separate from checking, ideally with a nickname ('House fund'). Named, separated money is dramatically less likely to get spent — the friction is a feature.
Should I save or invest for the goal?
Under ~3 years: savings account — market drops don't care about your deadline. Over ~5 years: investing usually wins. In between is a judgment call about how firm the date is.
How do people actually stick to it?
Automation. A standing transfer on payday makes the decision once instead of monthly. Willpower is a terrible savings strategy; calendars are excellent ones.
